About Vertical Jump Test
Vertical Jump Test is a free tool that turns two measurements, your standing reach and your jump-touch height, into your vertical jump in inches, then rates it for your age and sport and tells you whether you can dunk on a 10-foot rim.
Why this site exists
Most dunk calculators online do one thing: you type in a few numbers and they spit out a figure with no context. We wanted something more useful, a real test that explains what the number means, how it compares to other people your age and in your sport, and what to do next if you want to add inches. The goal is to be the single page a basketball, volleyball, or combine athlete can open right after a jump test and get a straight, honest answer.
How the test works
Your vertical jump is the highest point you can touch on a maximum jump minus your standing reach. That subtraction is the whole point: it removes the advantage of being tall and isolates how much force your legs and hips actually produce, which is the thing training changes. It is the same method used at the NFL combine and in volleyball and basketball programs. Everything runs in your browser, so the numbers you type never leave your device.
Where the rating data comes from
The age, sex, and sport ranges we rate against are drawn from published vertical-jump norms and combine data, cross-checked against multiple sources rather than a single chart. We separate general-population averages from sport-trained athletes so a parent checking a normal teenager is not comparing them against recruit-level numbers. The athlete reference list clearly labels which figures were officially measured at a combine and which are reported or estimated, because a lot of famous vertical numbers are repeated for decades without ever having been tested. Ranges are guides, not limits.
How the site is funded
The test is free and always will be. The site is supported by affiliate links: when we point to training or measuring gear on Amazon and you buy through that link, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. We may add advertising later. We only recommend gear that genuinely helps measure or train the vertical jump, and we say plainly when something is optional or skippable.
